My problem has been my urge to produce a novel, but as I recently discovered, my strength lies in the short story (at least at this stage of my life). I’ve read it over a few times, made my final edits, and have already moved on to my next project. I’m hoping to submit these tales to the online market with the goal of one day presenting three or four of them to a publisher as a compilation novel.</p> <p>This plan puts a small conflict of interest in my lap. I don’t really like the idea of online publication. It doesn’t sit well with me. I have a deep fondness for books — actual paper <i>books —</i> and I can’t imagine ever replacing a paperback with another gadget, like the Kindle, for example. I love that these things are saving trees, but you’ll never take my books away from me, and I don’t care to support the trend. Still, because of their average length, my short stories are best suited for the online market. I might not ever own a Kindle, but I don’t think I’m entirely casting aside my principles by offering these stories for download either. Or am I?
